Baby Blessings
and Namings
The arrival of a new baby in your family is the most amazing, exciting experience and a wonderful way to welcome your beautiful son or daughter to the world is by giving them a naming or blessing ceremony. There is not really any difference between the two. Generally a baby's name is given and confirmed during a blessing ceremony. However, some parents prefer not to have any spiritual content to the ceremony in which case the ceremony would be considered a naming ceremony.At a baby blessing you have the opportunity to make promises to your baby or child about your commitment to, and how you will raise, him or her. You can choose friends and/or relatives who will play the roles of special supporters or guardians for your child (sometimes known as godparents). You can ask everyone who attends the blessing to bless your child in their own way. There are so many possibilities for a baby blessing, they are really only limited by your imagination.I would be delighted to help you to create a blessing ceremony that honours your baby and truly celebrates his or her presence in your lives.It's also good to remember that it is perfectly possible to have a blessing ceremony for older children or to include all your children in one blessing if you want. Please get in touch to discuss your individual requirements.
Child like qualities are
God like qualities
in their spontaneity and joy
The foolishness and the fun
the dancing, the love,
the surrender, the abandon,
the lightness are part of the growing
pulsating human being
that is a blessing to our world.
(adapted from Emmanuel's Book)
If I had my child to raise all over again,
I'd finger-paint more, and point the fingers less.
I would do less correcting and more connecting.
I'd take my eyes off my watch, and watch with my eyes.
I would care to know less and know to care more.
I'd take more hikes and fly more kites.
I'd stop playing serious, and seriously play.
I would run through more fields and gaze at more stars.
I'd do more hugging and less tugging.
I'd build self-esteem first, and the house later.
I would be firm less often, and affirm much more.
I'd teach less about the love of power,
And more about the power of love.

Infant Joy"I have no name;
I am but two days old.
"What shall I call thee?"
I happy am,
Joy is my name.
"Sweet joy befall thee!
Pretty joy!Sweet joy,
but two days old.
Sweet Joy I call thee:
Thou dost smile,
I sing the while;
Sweet joy befall thee!
(by William Blake)
